  • Detroit Needs a Right to Counsel Ordinance RIGHT NOW

Evictions were a big problem before the pandemic. They are a big problem now and will be in the future if we don’t take action right NOW. Federal funding for temporary programs are NOT permanent solutions to the Detroit eviction crisis.

  • Detroit Cannot Afford More People Being Evicted

  •  A Right to Counsel Ordinance is the RIGHT SOLUTION

  • Right to Counsel works!

  • Three states & 10 cities including New York City, Philadelphia, Cleveland & Toledo have passed Right to Counsel laws.

  • Those governments worked with legal aid orgs to provide and pay for full legal right to counsel for people facing eviction.

  • The program used public and private funds and were phased in over time.

  • Right to Counsel saves these states and cities money!

  • RTC will work in Detroit.

  • Supporters have begun drafting an ordinance and have consulted legal experts in Detroit, Michigan and across the county. We are gathering data and information now to better understand how it'd work in Detroit.

A Detroit Right to Counsel Ordinance Will Work When We Work Together!
