    CPTA'S PURPOSE
    The CPTA is committed to raising community awareness about police brutality, holding the DPD accountable for its actions, and demanding genuine transparency from the department, including an ongoing demand for an independent investigation into Hakim Littleton's killing, as well as other instances of police misconduct in all of its forms against residents of Wayne County.

    Detroit Right to Counsel Coalition believes that housing is a human right and formed to establish and support a right to legal counsel for people facing eviction in Detroit. A right to counsel for low-income tenants will play a major role in preventing evictions and housing displacement.

    Please raise your voice, use your power, and advocate for permanent, systemic changes to prevent evictions.

  • Spirit of Mandela INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNAL 2021

    WE CHARGE GENOCIDE (again/still)
    This Tribunal, through a criminal indictment based on international law, charges the U.S. govt, its states, and specific agencies, with human and civil rights violations against Black, Brown, and Indigenous people.

    The 2018 Spirit of Mandela campaign was launched by the National Jericho Movement to bring international attention to United States violations of u.s. held Political Prisoners’ human rights. Spirit of Mandela is building a coalition for the International Tribunal and BEYOND.  

    TRIBUNAL CHARGES

    • Racist police killings of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people;

    • Hyper incarcerations of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people

    • Political incarceration of Civil Rights/ National Liberation era revolutionaries and activists, as well as present day activists;

    • Environmental racism and its impact on Black, Brown, and Indigenous people;

    • Public Health racism and disparities and its traumatic impact on Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, and;

    • Genocide of Black, Brown, and Indigenous people because of the historic and systemic charges of all the above.

  • Detroit Coordinated Defense Coalition (DCD)

    In June 2020, Members of Detroit’s defense community came together to develop and offer coordinated legal support and representation to the protectors of Black Lives.

    The involved organizations work together to ensure that every arrested protester has a movement-oriented attorney and that we have a coordinated defense strategy. We are committed to providing effective and accountable legal support for Black liberation struggles happening in Detroit in the wake of this uprising.

    Know that we are here to stand with you and represent those who are arrested for exercising their rights to speak out against the unbroken legacy of institutional racism and violence brought on by the state and law enforcement for generations.
